This course is recommended or high school students in grades 9-12. 

Each unit in this course features short video lectures, comprehension check quizzes, and readings. Each week, students are expected to attend a live, one-hour discussion led by Mr. Tovrea. These weekly discussions are a chance to dig deeper into philosophical questions, clear up misunderstanding, and explore new ideas. Additionally, the course does have a final essay component.

Nope! This is designed to be an introduction, and there are no prerequisites. 

This is a complete semester course. Students will have approximately 60 total hours of instruction (including the self-paced video lectures, reading assignments, and assessments in addition to the weekly discussions). 

Students are introduced to argumentation and logic in the first unit. 

The weekly discussion meetings re each Tuesday at 1:00pm EST. The first meeting on September 15th. Depending on enrollment numbers, another discussion session may be opened.

The course is set up so students can complete lecture videos, quizzes and short assignments at any time throughout the week, providing flexibility.

• Attend the live discussion
• Complete a short reflection, quiz, or writing assignment (varies by week)

This is not an accredited school. Homeschool families may award homeschool credit based on their state’s requirements. We are able to provide materials to help document the course.

This is a secular academic course, meaning that it does not teach or promote any particular religious or nonreligious worldview. However, students will study philosophy of religion as an important area of philosophical inquiry. They may examine questions about the existence of God, faith and reason, religious experience, and the problem of evil. Religious and nonreligious perspectives are presented respectfully and evaluated as philosophical arguments. Students are not expected to adopt or reject any particular belief. Instead, they will practice understanding different viewpoints, evaluating evidence and reasoning, and expressing their own conclusions thoughtfully.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion. There is a cumulative graded essay (graded by Mr. Tovrea), but no formal grade is automatically awarded. If parents need assistance in determining a number or letter grade for homeschool transcripts, Mr. Tovrea can assist. Please direct all course questions directly to him at [email protected]

No. The course features pass/fail comprehension check quizzes, unit exams, discussion meetings, and a final essay. All work is either auto-graded (if it's multiple choice) or graded by Mr. Tovrea. 

Due to the limited seats for the course, refunds of 80% are granted if requested within the first two weeks of the course start date. The course begins September 8, 2026 and refund requests must be received by close of day on September 22, 2026. 

If your student is unable to finish the course, contact Mr. Tovrea and your seat can be transferred to a future semester.
